Hodejov (until 1927 Slovak "Hodejovo"; Hungarian Várgede ) is a town on the south center of Slovakia with 1,604 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), in the Rimavská Sobota District , a circle of kraj Banskobystrický lies and landscape Gemer counted becomes.

geography

The municipality is located on both sides of the Gortva River , a tributary of the Rimava . The landscape goes from the Juhoslovenská kotlina basin north of the town to the Cerová vrchovina mountainous region further south. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 207  m nm and is 18 kilometers from Rimavská Sobota and 23 kilometers from Fiľakovo .

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1280 as a memorial and developed from a settlement below a fortress, where a castle was built in the late 13th century. Important lords of the village and the castle came from the families Ilsvay , Palóczy , Ország and Kubínyi . The castle and the village were conquered and destroyed by the Turks in 1571.

In 1828 there were 77 houses and 713 inhabitants in Hodejov who were employed in agriculture, guilds and masonry.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or today Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary because of the First Vienna Arbitration .

In 1959 the village of Čierny Potok , until then part of Hodejov, became independent.
