The Sylo Monastery was a Dominican convent near Schlettstadt . The name comes from the Sylo monastery near Rappoltsweiler, which was handed over to the Dominicans in 1250 .

history

In the years 1245 to 1246 the monastery was placed under the Dominican order by Pope Innocent IV . In 1258, sisters from the Sylo Monastery near Rappoltsweiler moved into the Mühlbach Monastery near Schlettstadt. In 1263 the first wooden monastery building burned down. The sisters found refuge in the St. Margarete monastery in Eckbolsheim, founded in 1224 . In 1266 they started building a larger monastery. The St. Andreas Chapel consecrated Albertus Magnus in 1268 . The buildings were completed in 1286. Until the founding of the Dominican monastery in Schlettstadt around 1274, Dominican women from Freiburg im Breisgau were cared for. In 1464 the monastery was reformed by sisters from the monastery of St. Catherine in Colmar according to the rule of the order. It survived the Reformation and lasted until 1789. In the course of the revolution , the buildings became state property and converted into a hospital.
