geography

history
Already in the Neolithic , around 5000 to 3500 BC. BC, people lived in the area of today's small town. At that time the Breusch burst its banks several times and flooded the area. A Celtic road connected Strasbourg with the Breuschtal and a Roman road between Basel and Cologne ; they crossed at the later Eckbolsheim.
In 235 the Germanic peoples broke into the area. They defeated the 7th Roman Legion , and the settlement was destroyed.
Monastic orders had a great influence on Alsace between the 11th and 13th centuries. The Dominicans founded a monastery in Eckbolsheim in 1224 , which they called Santa Margherita . Sisters of the Sylo Monastery temporarily moved into this after their monastery near Schlettstadt burned down in 1263.
Place name
A previous place name was Eggiboldesheim . Thus, the name is composed of the words corner and brave (or soon ). Places whose names end with home are usually Alemannic foundations. In a document by Pope Innocent IV , today's Eckbolsheim appears as Eckboltzheim . According to documents, it was called Egöltzen around 1517 .
