Reichstett is a French commune with 4,418 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The community lies between Mundolsheim and Hœrdt . Small trades and agriculture are important branches of industry . The Rubis company now operates a tank terminal on the site of the former Reichstett refinery . The refinery was previously operated by Total , BP and Shell , later only by Shell, and was sold to Petroplus in 2008 . After Petroplus went bankrupt, the refinery was shut down.

history

An ecclesiastical document from 1163 confirms the existence of this village at that time. Rinstett was a noble family around a Nicolas de Rinstett , after whom the place was initially named. From Rinstett later Rinstetten (1163), Rinstettin (1259) and Rynstett (1350). The current village church is dated to 1767. From 1914 to 1918 the village population suffered from the consequences of the First World War . Even the Second World War did not leave Reichstett without a trace. On November 23, 1944, the liberation by the French troops of Major General Leclerc followed .

The Prussian Fort Moltke (today Fort Rapp), which has been completely preserved and is open to the public, is located in the municipality .
