history
During excavations in the municipal area, finds of artifacts from the Bandkeramischen culture of the early Neolithic (5,500-5,000 BC) were made. The Großgartacher culture left 42 graves from the Middle Neolithic (5,000–4,500 / 4,300 BC) and the Michelsberg culture (4,400–3,500 BC) left two graves, the latter being particularly interesting because a human skull was found in one of the graves on which trepanations had been carried out. There are only two such finds in Alsace. From the Late Bronze time a has been burial of the urnfield culture found (1300-800 v. Chr.) Comprising 21 graves and 60 polls.
A cemetery with eight graves from the Merovingian period (5th - 8th centuries) is located between Lingolsheim and Geispolsheim . The city was first mentioned as Lingolsvesheim in the 12th century. In the course of time it was called Lingolsvisheim and Lingolslzheim . It was not mentioned in a document with its current name until 1620. The place name originated from the Germanic name Lingolf and the Franconian place name ending " -heim ".
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Lingolsheim belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Erstein district in the Lower Alsace district .
