Historical elements

Close to the Saales train station .

The Rothau - Saales line , which was single-track, ran almost straight through the Vallée de la Bruche , parallel to the road. During the 1920s the line was expanded so that heavier trains can use it. The route crosses the Breusch over a bridge. This is 17 m high and has a length of 200 m. The bridge is made of concrete, but is clad with white granite from the Vosges. The bridge was damaged in 1940 while French forces withdrew. A German company repaired it.

Infrastructure

The line from Strasbourg to Molsheim is equipped with the automatique lumineux block, and from Molsheim to Saint-Dié with the manual block . The route is not electrified.

Most trains start in Strasbourg and go to Rothau . Most of the trains that continue to end in Saales . These stations have sidings. At Saint-Dié-des-Vosges station there is only one platform for the TERs from Strasbourg.

vehicles

X 76500 , this is the diesel variant of the Autorail à grande capacité , the largest vehicle series in the history of the SNCF , operate on the route . This multiple unit has an output of 1324 kW and a top speed of 160 km / h. The multiple units are in three parts, 57.40 m long, 2.95 m wide and can carry around 150 passengers. Push-pull trains with RIO and BB 67400 also run during rush hour .

Financing and fares

As on the entire SNCF network, the fare depends on the distance and the time at which the journey takes place.

The region has developed its own pricing system so the prices are attractive and more people use the train. Among other things, there should be an incentive to take the train to work or school; There are subscriptions for this purpose.

The SNCF is responsible for the financing, maintenance of the route and the vehicles and staff . However, the income from the fares does not cover the operating costs. The Alsace region will provide the missing money .
