The Sélestat – Saverne railway is a French railway line in Alsace that connected Sélestat with Saverne . TER Alsace trains operate on the section from Sélestat to Molsheim . The rest of the route to Saverne is closed.
Route
The railway line leaves Sélestat station in a northerly direction and, after the Sélestat-Lesseux-Frapelle line has branched off, orientates itself to the north-west. It leads past the eastern outskirts of Scherwiller to reach the former Dambach-la-Ville station at 7.42 km . From there it leads north to Epfig train station , which is reached after a right-hand bend. Barr train station, southeast of the old town, is at km 17.43 . After the Gertwiller stop , the route leads north again and Obernai train station is at km 24.7 . The line to Saint-Nabor branched off at Rosheim station . From there it goes north to Molsheim , where the Strasbourg – Saint-Dié railway crosses.
From Molsheim the railway line led to Avolsheim and from there through the Mossig valley via Marlenheim to Wasselonne . After Romanswiller , the 470 m long tunnel de Singrist , which is located under the village of the same name , was crossed. Shortly before Otterswiller , the 230 m long Viaduc d'Otterswiller was crossed. Shortly before the Saverne train station , the Canal de la Marne au Rhin was crossed.
history
The section from Barr to Molsheim began operating on September 29, 1864. The Molsheim – Wasselonne section went into operation on December 15, 1864. The extension to Sélestat and Saverne went into operation on August 1, 1877.
The northern section of the line was closed in several stages:
- Rommanswiller – Marmoutier on October 19, 1967
- Marmoutier – Otterswiller on September 17, 1980
- Otterswiller – Saverne on February 22, 1981
- Molsheim – Romanswiller on February 25, 1993
Infrastructure
The stations in Rosheim , Obernai and Barr have sidings to enable train crossings. The route between Sélestat and Barr has been equipped with the “Bloc Manuel de Voie Unique” (BMVU) since 1986. From there, the “Bloc Automatique à Permissivité Restreinte” (BAPR) is used all the way to Obernai. The section between Obernai and Molsheim is equipped with the “Bloc Automatique Lumineux” (BAL). The maximum speed is 80 km / h.
The section from Molsheim to Sélestat was expanded in view of the commissioning of the planned Strasbourg - Piémont des Vosges light rail. Among other things, the signaling in the Obernai and Rosheim train stations was renewed and the tracks and gravel between Rosheim and Obernai were replaced. The Rosheim train station is remote-controlled from Molsheim.
From Molsheim to Saverne, the tracks were dismantled and a cycle path is on the old route.
In Rosheim there was a private railway connection to the quarries of Saint-Nabor . The Rosheim – Saint-Nabor railway line is currently not in service, but consideration is being given to putting the line back into operation in order to remove stones that arise while the quarries are being secured.
business
Class X 76500 diesel multiple units operate on the route . Push-pull trains with locomotives of the BB 67400 series are also used. During the week there is approximately every half hour from Strasbourg train station . Some trains end in Barr and Obernai.
There is a lot of goods traffic to and from Obernai to the Kronenbourg brewery .
future
It is planned to integrate this route into a tram-train system of the Vosges (Tram-train Strasbourg – Bruche – Piémont des Vosges). In 2009, as the first phase, a regular schedule was set up on the route. At a later point in time, the line will also be electrified and dual-system trams will be used. The Tram-Train project was postponed for the time being due to financial difficulties.
