Eichhoffen (German Eichhofen or Eichhofen im Alsace ) is a French commune with 527 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Sélestat-Erstein and the Canton of Obernai .
geography
The municipality is located at 207 meters above sea level, about 13 kilometers north of Sélestat and 26 kilometers southwest of Strasbourg . The Ill tributary Andlau enters the Upper Rhine Plain from the last foothills of the Vosges (Muenchberg) .
history
The first mentions of a settlement at the same location are from the year 980.
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Eichhoffen belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Schlettstadt district in the Lower Alsace district .

Attractions
The Saint Jean-Baptiste chapel was first mentioned in a document in 1052. In 1569 it was rebuilt.
economy
More than two thirds of the municipality are made up of grapevines. In addition to tourism, viticulture is the most important line of business in Eichhoffen.
