Buildings

  • The Romanesque chapel from the 12th century, which still exists today, used to be the parish church.
  • The 19th century Riedmünster can hold around 500 people. Since the village had around twice the population at that time, the small size of the old church met with displeasure. The mayor Göpfert was the driving force behind the construction of a new church, and this is how St. Stephen's Church was built in neo-Gothic style between 1864 and 1866. The old Riedmünster then became a cemetery chapel.
  • Since the last local Jews moved away from Mackenheim in the 1980s, the synagogue was no longer used for the time being. Today there is therefore a hall in the lower area of this building that is used for theater performances or private celebrations. The upper area serves as a library and the youth as a meeting point.
  • The Jewish cemetery was laid out in the 16th century.
