Saint-Pierre (German Sankt Peter ) is a French commune with 648 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bas-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ). The inhabitants are called Saint-Pierrois.
geography
The Andlau , a tributary of the Ill , flows through the municipality. Saint-Pierre is located in the Upper Rhine Plain , 14 kilometers north of Sélestat and 27 kilometers southwest of Strasbourg .
Neighboring communities of Saint-Pierre are Barr in the north, Zellwiller in the northeast, Stotzheim in the east, Epfig in the south, Eichhoffen in the west and Mittelbergheim in the northwest.
history
From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Saint-Pierre belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the Schlettstadt district in the Lower Alsace district .

coat of arms
The coat of arms shows a blue arm in gold that protrudes from the right and holds a key in silver pointing upwards. The key represents the attribute of the eponymous Simon Peter .
Culture and sights
Saint-Pierre is represented with two flowers in the Conseil national des villes et villages fleuris (National Council of Blooming Cities and Villages). The "flowers" are awarded in the course of a regional competition, whereby a maximum of four flowers can be achieved.
- Buildings
- The Saint-Arbogast church bears the year 1852 on the portal.
- The Château d'Ittenwiller (Ittenweiler) is based on an Augustinian priory founded in 1115. In 1661 the Bishop of Strasbourg had the dilapidated buildings restored and expanded into a castle. It has been entered in the additional directory of the Monuments historiques since 1937 and is owned by the Andlau family.
- In the 19th century there were up to seven active mills on the Muhlbach. Three of them are still preserved.
