Attractions

The place has half-timbered houses and Renaissance buildings. The watchtower with bay window and the Zehnthof date from 1670 . In 1525 a massacre of the revolting peasants ( German Peasants' War ) took place here. The castle ruins of Ortenberg and Ramstein tower above Scherwiller .

The former synagogue ( Monument historique ) is now used as a fire station. Next to it is the former rabbi's house (Monument historique).

Regular events

Riesling Festival is held every year in mid-August, when all wine cellars are open. In July, the washing women festival takes place on the Aubach in the village center on several days . The washerwomen wash 'dirty laundry' in their traditional costumes in a double sense: with lots of singing and short stories, the events in the village are shown. For the visitors there are tarte flambée and the famous Riesling from Scherwiller.

The traditional Sentier Gourmand takes place every year on the first weekend in September , a hike from the center through the vineyards of Scherwiller to the best location, the Rittersberg. All of Scherwiller's winemakers take part in this gastronomic walk. At eight stations along the route, there is a small meal and wines from one grape variety from all winemakers to be tasted. The Sentier Gourmand ends at the town hall with a cozy wine festival to round off the day. Every year around 3000 visitors from all over Europe take part in this event.
