Zehnthof in Sinzig

In the legal history of the Middle Ages, the Zehnthof ( Zehenthof ) was the yard where the due tithe was to be delivered.

While churches or monasteries originally collected the tithe from the individual farmers themselves (and often commissioned a decimator to do so), this was later partially transferred to "tithe tenants" who held the tithe yard. The farmers had to hand over their taxes to the Zehnthof or the tithe was collected by the tenant of the Zehnthof. The delivered natural produce was then processed together with the products produced on the farm itself.

For example, the rent at Zehnthof Sinzig was half of the farm's income. In addition, the tenant was responsible for building and repairing the farm.

There were other farms with the name Zehnthof in Upper Bavaria , in the communities of Peterskirchen and Oberneukirchen , in the 17th century in Alsace, in the canton of Kaysersberg, in the communities of Sigolsheim, Ammerschweier and Reichenweier (Riquewihr), in the canton of Rappoltsweiler, in the municipality of Hunaweier (Hunawihr) and in Canton Ensisheim, at the abandoned place Machtolsheim, in the Rhineland in the district of Düsseldorf in the rural community of Meiersberg and in the former district of Aachen in the rural communities of Richterich and Haaren .

Zehenthofgasse in Vienna (Döbling) is named after a manor that was documented as early as 1512.
