coat of arms
Blazon : In red above a silver stepped gable, two golden, diagonally crossed keys with turned away beards and square handles. The community colors are red-yellow-red.
The keys in the municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1984, are an attribute of St. Peter for the church patron and namesake of the place. The silver step rafter is taken from the coat of arms of the Grueber von Peterskirchen, an old Bavarian knightly family that had its seat in Peterskirchen.
history
Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then 'Innbaiern'). Briefly Bavarian again during the Napoleonic Wars , since 1814 it has finally belonged to Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
Probably the most important personality in the history of the place, the composer Johann Nepomuk David (1895-1977) worked under the name Hans David from October 1915 to April 1920 as a teacher at the one-class elementary school, interrupted by a short military service in Brno (April to October 1918 ). As his most extensive composition to date, David completed a mass for solos, mixed choir, organ and large orchestra in Peterskirchen in 1917 (still unprinted to this day). Johann Nepomuk David became an honorary citizen of Peterskirchen by unanimous decision with a certificate from September 1965; in June 1971 the local elementary school was inaugurated in his name, which he paid a personal visit in April 1974.
