history

The first documentary mention of Mettmach can be found in a deed of donation from Emperor Konrad II to a Count Pilgrim in Mattiggau, at that time the noble seats Hub , Neundling, Weiffendorf , Mairing and Katzenberg were mentioned in the local area. In 1150 the name of a certain "Chuno de Metemenha" appears, a first reference to the current name of the place. In the 12th century a tavern was built in the village, which probably does not characterize the place as a simple village, but as a Hofmark.

Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, Mettmach was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then 'Innbaiern'). During the Napoleonic Wars briefly Bavarian again, Mettmach has been part of Austria on the Enns since 1814 . In 1849 Mettmach became a political municipality, which was established from the tax communities of Mettmach, Hub, Neundling and Weiffendorf, in 1876 the municipality became its own parish.

After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

In 1960 the lower and upper jaws of a gomphotherium were found in the corridors of the community .

In 1983 Mettmach was finally raised to the status of a market town and was given a municipal coat of arms.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms : square of gold and green; 1 a blue, obliquely left wavy bar, 2 a silver trunk (gomphotherium) breaking out of the edge of the shield, 3 and 4 two color-changed theater masks, turned away, connected by a knotted ribbon, the right cheerful, the left serious.

The community colors are green-yellow-blue

While the first field shows the Mettmacher Ache, which gives the municipality its name, and the head of a gomphotherium in the second field reminds of prehistory , the two lower, color-changing fields show two theater masks as a symbol for the Mettmacher Festival, which has been known for decades.
