Mörschwang is a municipality in Upper Austria in the district of Ried im Innkreis in the Innviertel with 343 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Ried im Innkreis .

geography

Mörschwang lies at an altitude of 383 m in the Innviertel. The extension is 6.4 km from north to south and 6.2 km from west to east. The total area is 11.2 km². 22.3% of the area is forested, 68.8% of the area is used for agriculture.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms : stepped obliquely to the left; above in gold a black, left-turned, erect, red-armored and horned, fire-spraying panther; below in blue half of a golden, broken wheel, with the broken side after the division, which is equipped with golden knives on the outside in the extension of the spokes. The municipality colors are blue-yellow-black.

history

Since the founding of the Duchy of Baiern, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then "Innbaiern"). Briefly Bavarian again during the Napoleonic Wars , since 1814 it has finally belonged to Upper Austria.

After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

politics

Mayor is Josef Högl from the ÖVP. Since September 2015 there are 8 municipal council seats for the ÖVP and one seat for the Greens. The Greens are voting for the first time.

Population development

In 1991 the community had 314 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 294 inhabitants. The population decline was due to emigration. From 2001 to 2011, both the birth balance and the migration balance were positive, so that the community grew to 309 people.
