Erwin Hainisch

Erwin Hainisch (born July 25, 1895 in Eichberg, municipality of Gloggnitz ; † September 1, 1964 ) was an Austrian art historian , monument conservator and state curator of Upper Austria .

Life

Hainisch, son of the Federal President of the First Republic Michael Hainisch , began studying architecture at the Technical University in Vienna in 1914 . From 1915 to 1918 he did military service and in 1919, after his return from Italian captivity, began studying art history at the University of Vienna , which he completed in 1926 with a doctorate. In the same year he entered the service of the Federal Monuments Office in Vienna. In 1927 he became an interim Upper Austrian provincial curator in Linz (succeeding Oskar Oberwalder ) and in 1932 he was officially appointed. In 1939 he had to give up the office of state curator as a "mixed breed 2nd degree" and returned to the Federal Monuments Office (Central Office for Monument Protection) in Vienna.

From 1933 to 1937 Hainisch was married to Ludovica Hainisch-Marchet .
