State curator

State curator is an official of the monument authorities at state level in Germany , Austria and South Tyrol .

Germany

State curators are civil servants of the higher service in Germany . These are representatives of the federal states , who are responsible, among other things, for the protection and preservation of monuments and head the state monument offices .

From 1815 to 1945 the official title in the Prussian provinces was Provincial Conservator .

Austria

The state conservatoires are departments of the Federal Monuments Office , under the direction of a state conservator . They are the first point of contact for all questions regarding monument protection and preservation in the respective federal state .

South-Tirol

Also in South Tyrol , unique in Italy and based on the Austrian conditions, there is an independent State Monuments Office South Tyrol with a state curator at the top, who is responsible for the three fields of architectural and art monuments, ground monuments (archeology) and archive maintenance.
