history

In the municipality, the Noric Roman main road ran from Wels ( Ovilava ) to Burghausen ( Bedaium / Bedacum? ) , To which Burgstall and Straß in the neighboring municipalities still refer. After the Romans left in 488, the area is likely to have been residual and mixed settled during the migration period (which Windischhub in Pramet, for example, refers to, depopulation is no longer assumed today).

The -ing and -ham names attest to the settlement of the Bavarian conquest from 700. Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria and belonged to the Diocese of Passau . Missioning took place until around 900, primarily from Mondsee and Mattsee via Hohenzell and Eberschwang . The place name Schildorn is of Franconian origin ( Old High German  sciltarin , settlement of royal shield bearers), and is documented for the first time in 903. The Schildorn Church was then also the main and mother parish of the northern Hausruck-Kobernaußerwald area, but around 1300 the parish was relocated to the now more important Waldzell . Noble von Schildorn were also resident here, about whose residence nothing is known, the family died out in the 13th century, and since then the secular administration has been at a Propsteigericht zu Ried.

The place was Bavarian until 1779, and after the Treaty of Teschen and the Innviertel (then Innbaiern ) it became part of Austria . As early as the 16th century, a (sub) "parish" had appeared again, but it was not until 1784 that Joseph II set up a separate parish for Schildorn and Pramet (foundation of the Linz diocese in 1783). In 1811 the parsonage burned down , which destroyed the parish archives, so knowledge of the early modern period is incomplete.

During the Napoleonic Wars briefly royal Bavarian again , since 1812 it has finally belonged to the crown land of Austria above the Enns . After the creation of the local parishes in 1848/49 , the area of today's Pramet was also integrated into the Schildorn administrative area by June 21, 1884 .

In 1881 a heavy winter with 1 m of snow is reported, in 1887 hailstones up to 5 cm devastated the fields.

After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Schildorn used to belong to Pramet (postcode 4925), on July 1, 2008 the community got its own postcode 4920. At the same time, the localities and street names of the community were reorganized, which had previously become a bit confusing.

Population development

In 1991 the community had 884 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 1,053 inhabitants. The strong growth occurred because both the birth balance and the migration balance were positive. In the years 2001 to 2011 there was a slight emigration, but the birth balance remained positive, so that the population rose to 1,101 in 2011 and further to 1,227 in 2018.

politics

The community is located in the judicial district of Ried im Innkreis .

Community representation

Distribution of seats since the municipal council election 2015:

Mayor is Wolfgang Moser from the ÖVP.

Before that, Georg Schoibl (ÖVP) was mayor, who, due to the election in the municipal council on November 12, 2007, had succeeded the resigned predecessor Johann Rachbauer. Rachbauer had previously held the office for 17 years and had resigned for health reasons. Schoibl was elected with 7: 6 votes with the mandates of the ÖVP (6) and the FPÖ (1) against the SPÖ (6). The candidate of the defeated SPÖ, Christian Makor-Winkelbauer , had previously announced that in the event of his election victory, his mayor's salary would be donated in full (e.g. to clubs). As a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament , he already has a very high income. On November 19, 2012, Schoibl announced his resignation after it was proven that he had invented a municipal council meeting and falsified the minutes in the course of borrowing for the municipality.
