The stallion mountain , also stallion , is 683  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the main ridge of the Hausruck and Kobernaußerwald train between Innviertel and Traunviertel in Upper Austria . In the profile of the ridge it is hardly visible.

Location and landscape

The summit is located in the municipality of Schildorn (Ried im Innkreis district, north side), the highest point of which it represents. Otherwise Waldzell and Frankenburg have shares in its slopes. The assignment to Hausruck (eastern part of the train) or Kobernaußerwald (western part) is largely arbitrary, their delimitation is seen somewhere here in the room, partly directly on the Hengstberg itself.

The north drains the Antiesen ( Kronawittbach near Sankt Kollmann via Oberach) in the catchment area of the lower Inn , the southeast of the Frankenburger Redlbach (Edter Bach near Oberedt ), which flows into the Traun via Vöckla - Ager .

History and Development

Frankenburg , behind the Hausrugg with Hengstberg on the left and Guggenberg on the right
( Vischer , Topographia Austriae superioris , 1674)

Stallion is an old Upper German word for 'forest'.

Here on the old Frankenburger Fahrweg stood the White Cross Column , a border mark of the Chur Bavarian courts Friedburg and Ried against the Austrian - Obderennsian court Frankenburg - the Innviertel only came to Austria with the Peace of Teschen in 1779. A Landwehr (border fortification) also ran on the Hengstberg .

Today the Waldzeller Straße (L 1064), one of the less important crossings of the ridge, runs southeast of the summit between Waldzell (north side) and Frankenburg am Hausruck (Vöklabruck district, south side; to Frankenburger Straße  L509 near Dorf ). The top of the pass is also simply called the Hengst .

The mountain is on the Hausruck-Höhenweg ( Hausruck-Kobernaußerwald-Weitwanderweg  HKWW / 10HK Haag - Mattighofen , part of the Rupertiweg / E10 ), which is also a good mountain bike route.
