The Kobernaußerwaldwarte

The Kobernaußerwaldwarte is a control room in Upper Austria . It is located on the summit of the Steiglberg ( 767  m above sea level ), the highest point of the Kobernaußerwald in the municipality of Lohnsburg am Kobernaußerwald .

history

In 1929, under the direction of an engineer, the land surveying office and a number of carpenters erected a 26 m high wooden tower on the Steiglberg, which was used for surveying purposes, but was also widely visited as a lookout tower. As early as 1934 it was demolished due to its dilapidation.

In 1969, the Lohnsburg tourist association decided to build a new observation tower. This was built in concrete and opened in the summer of 1969 after a three-month construction period.

description

The viewing platform at a height of 30 meters is accessed via 125 steps after inserting coins. In the staircase there is a regularly redesigned gallery in the tower . The view encompasses the Upper Austrian Alps, the Salzkammergut and extends north to the Bohemian Forest .
