The European long-distance hiking trail E10 is part of the European hiking trail network and is intended to lead from northern Finland to southern Spain. In many countries, however, expansion and marking are only fragmentary or are in the planning stage. In addition to the aforementioned countries, the E10 long-distance hiking trail also leads through Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy and France.

Finland

In Finland , the course does not seem to have been determined yet, and there are no continuous markings or descriptions. The E10 roughly begins there at Nuorgam on the border with Norway as the northernmost point and then leads to Inari . Further south it then crosses Saariselkä and then continues south-east to Tulppio. From there it leads to Salla , near the Russian border, still north of the Arctic Circle .

Already south of the Arctic Circle it first reaches Posio , then further south Puolanka . Now it goes in a south-easterly direction to Hyrynsalmi . From there, also in a roughly south-easterly direction, the E10 reaches Joensuu , then it continues roughly south to Imatra on the Finnish-Russian border. From there it leads in a south-westerly direction to Lappeenranta and then reaches the Baltic Sea with the Gulf of Finland .

From there, the E10 then takes the (Finnish) Königsweg (an old trunk road from Helsinki to Saint Petersburg ) to Helsinki and from there further west to Hanko , the southernmost city in Finland, where a ferry connects to Germany , where the E10 will then continue near Sassnitz on the island of Rügen .

Germany

Crossing of the hiking trails E10 and E11 in Potsdam, approx. 600 kilometers from the German starting point on Rügen.

In Germany , the E10 begins on the island of Rügen . Although the long-distance hiking trail is supposed to arrive in Sassnitz from Finland, nothing of the marking (three horizontal lines white-color-white or the St. Andrew's cross ) can be seen there. The connection to Finland seems to have been completely abandoned (at least for the time being).

The E10 long-distance hiking trail in Germany begins at the northernmost point of Rügen, at Cape Arkona by the lighthouses and leads via Stralsund , Tribsees and Malchow to Strasen .

Here the E10 is divided into two variants:

The eastern variant leads from Strasen to Fürstenberg , then south via Dannenwalde and Zehdenick to Hohen Neuendorf north of Berlin . From here the route leads west via Hennigsdorf to Brieselang .

The western variant leads from Strasen to Rheinsberg , then further south through Ruppin Switzerland to Neuruppin . From there, the path continues along Ruppiner See via Wustrau to Brieselang , where the two variants of the E10 meet again.

The Havel is crossed by ferry at Ketzin . The European long-distance hiking trail E11 crosses the path in Potsdam . The path leads via Trebbin and Zossen to Groß Köris in the Dahme-Heideseen nature park , then the Spreewald biosphere reserve with Lübbenau and Burg (Spreewald) is crossed before Cottbus . From there it goes via Spremberg to Bad Muskau on the border with Poland .

The path crosses the Muskauer Heide in a southerly direction to Niesky and Löbau . With the Lausitzer Bergland , the North German Plain is left and the path overcomes the first major inclines. The long-distance hiking trail E10 then takes the course of the Oberlausitzer Bergweg via Neugersdorf and Seifhennersdorf to the border with the Czech Republic .

The E10 long-distance hiking trail again reaches German territory between Salzburg and Berchtesgaden . Here, however, he continues to use his Austrian red-white-red marking . Coming from the Salzburg Hochthron the hiking trail crosses the German-Austrian border and leads to the Berchtesgadener Hochthron , then down to Maria Gern and via Anzenbach to Berchtesgaden. From there it goes south to Schönau am Königssee , then in the same direction to the northern tip of the Königsee . From here, the E10 then uses a ship to St. Bartholomä . Now it's back on solid ground, over the Saugasse up to Funtensee , behind which the German-Austrian border is crossed again.

Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic the marking of the E10 still consists of 3 horizontal lines white-color-white.

Coming from the German-Czech border, the E10 reaches Varnsdorf , then heads south-west to Jiřetín pod Jedlovou , from where the trail continues south to Česká Lípa . The long-distance hiking trail continues via Slovanská Lhota via Žebrák , Hřiměždice , then via Luhy, Nepřejov and Smolotely to Bohostice. We continue to Karmenná, Kozárpvice, Pukňov, via Orlík nat Vltavou, Nevezíce, Zbonín, Stědronin-Plazy to Nová Vráz and Písek .

Via Litoradlice ( Horní Kněžeklady ) it goes to Hluboká nad Vltavou and Ceskě Budějovice and from there to the center of Budweis .

From there the E10 leads via Boršov nad Vltavou to Dívčí Kámen Castle , on via Třísov to Zlatá Koruna , Kokotín, on the Kleť , then on via Nový Dvůr to Český Krumlov , Malotín, Slavkov, Světlík , the Lišcí vrch (829 m) Frymburk and then to the Vltava reservoir. From there the hiking trail leads to Lipno nad Vltavou , then through the Vltava Gorge to Vyšší Brod , from there to Mnichovice and via Studánky it then reaches the Czech-Austrian border.

Austria

In Austria the marking of the E10 consists of 3 horizontal lines red-white-red. The route largely follows the Rupertiweg (Austrian long-distance hiking trail 10) and the Southern Alpine path (Austrian long-distance hiking trail 03).

Now the E10 continues via Forcher Kaser, Weitlanbrunn to the Italian-Austrian border near Prato alla Drava .

Italy

In Italy , the marking of the E10 is mostly red and white and mostly follows local hiking trails.

From the Italian-Austrian border near Winnebach , the E10 leads via St. Sylvester, Sylvester Valley, Wahlen (near Toblach / Dobbiaco), Kirchberg, Welsperg Castle , Welsberg-Taisten , Imberg, Oberrasen , Aschbach , Erdpyramiden, Oberwielenbach , Dietenheim , Stegen (near Bruneck ) to Falzes . From here, the E10 has not yet been implemented. The Tratto Lombardo and the Grande Traversata delle Alpi may be ideal for hiking on to the French-Italian border .

France

In France , the route of the E10 has not yet been determined and accordingly not marked. From the French-Italian border to the French-Spanish border, you can only partially follow the course of the E 7 on the Côte d'Azur and then possibly follow the course of the E 4 to the border town of Portbou .

Spain

In Spain the E10 is still patchy, but leads along the GR 92. From Portbou it goes on the Costa Brava to Cadaqués . In the further course Roses , Palamós , Lloret de Mar are touched, then Blanes is reached. Here the hiking trail leaves the coast and continues in the hinterland via Tordera , then bypasses Barcelona and only reaches the coast again in Sitges . Now it leads in a wide arc through the hinterland back to the coast near Tarragona . We continue via Cambrils, l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, l'Ametila de Mar and then leave the coast again at l'Ampola. In Amposta the Ebro is crossed, shortly afterwards the E10 / GR92 ends in Ullecona on the border with the province of Valencia .

The E10 has only been realized again in the Murcia region and continues along the GR92. From the coastal San Pedro del Pinatar you pass the Mar Menor near the coast , Cabo de Palos is passed about off the beaten track. Then the E10 runs in Cartagena along the port and then on through the Sierra de la Muela to Puerto de Mazarrón and to Águilas , where the border of the autonomous community of Andalusia is reached on the coast .

Via San Juan de los Terreros, the E10 / GR92 leads along the coast via Garrucha, Carboneras, into the Cabo de Gata Natural Park . In the Sierra del Cabo de Gata, the E10 continues through Las Negras, Los Escullos , San José , then over the San Miguell to the lighthouse of Cabo de Gata. Now there seems to be a gap in the marking as far as behind Almería. From Aguadulce it goes along the coast to Roquetas de Mar , and from there to Adra at the foot of the Sierra Nevada , where the marked area of the E10 ends.
