St. Radegund (also Sankt Radegund ) is a municipality in the Austrian state of Upper Austria in the Braunau am Inn district in the Innviertel with 583 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The responsible judicial district is the judicial district Mattighofen , until 2004 the municipality belonged to the judicial district Wildshut .
It became known nationwide as the birthplace and residence of Franz Jägerstätter, who was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2007 .
geography
Sankt Radegund is located at an altitude of 480 m in the Innviertel. The extension is 4.8 km from north to south and 6.3 km from west to east. The total area is 17.9 km². 71.5% of the area is forested, 21.8% of the area is used for agriculture.
The municipality of Sankt Radegund is located on the right bank of the Salzach, which forms the border with Germany between the city of Salzburg and its confluence with the Inn on the right . St. Radegund contains the westernmost point of Upper Austria.
A south-western, small part of the Weilhartsforst is located in the municipality of St. Radegund.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms : In blue, a double-rowed sloping bar made of red and silver; above a golden, old royal crown with silver pearls in the leaves, below a silver, inclined deer pole. The municipality colors are yellow-red.
history
Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then 'Innbaiern'). Briefly Bavarian again during the Napoleonic Wars , since 1814 it has finally belonged to Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to belong Reichsgau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Population development
In 1991 the community had 560 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 580 inhabitants. From 2001 to 2011, both the birth balance and the migration balance were negative, so that the population fell to 563.

Inking unit
In 1996, the Radegund paintworks, a studio, workshop and gallery, was opened in the municipality's former primary school. The project was initiated by the artist Karlheinz Schönswetter († 2006), who lives in nearby St. Georgen. The aim of the inking plant is to bring art and culture to the small villages.
tourism
Sankt Radegund is part of the Seelentium - Upper Innviertel tourist region . Numerous cycling and hiking trails lead through the municipality, including the Via Nova pilgrimage route .
In August 2011 the Icelandic Horse World Championship took place in Sankt Radegund.
The Central European Championship of Icelandic Horses is currently taking place here.
