history

The discovery of a stone ax in the municipal area points very far into the past in terms of settlement history. The Keltenschanze in the Chachawald is probably from the Latène period .

In Ranshofen documents, gentlemen from Moosbach appear as witnesses for the first time around 1070. In this way they indirectly provide information about the existence of the place at that time, but the roots certainly go back further.

Various documents from the 12th century tell us about donations to some monasteries, church foundations, but also excommunication as a station in the life of a noble von Moosbach family. Turbulent times and the resulting dangers for the population have created protective facilities such as the Erdstall , which was discovered years ago during construction work in the local area.

A pastor from Moosbach who was subordinate to the Bishop of Passau is mentioned for the first time in a Salzburg document from 1196 . The parish originally also included Weng and Mining , which only became independent after the Josephine Reform in the 18th century.

After belonging to Bavaria for centuries , the entire Innviertel became part of Austria through the Treaty of Teschen in 1779 .

From the late Middle Ages until 1848, two central points shaped the place: Castle and Hofmark Waasen, with changing families of owners. Waasen is still the largest village in the municipality, as well as the parish and manor of Moosbach. After the abolition of the subordination relationships in the revolution of 1848/49 , the local communities Moosbach were formed in 1851 from the tax communities Waasen and Grubedt .
