coat of arms

Official description of the municipal coat of arms : In black on a green three-mountain lined with a golden bar, a golden maple branch with three golden leaves. Awarded by resolution of the Upper Austrian provincial government on July 10, 1978. The municipality colors are black, yellow and green.

The motif for the municipal coat of arms is taken from the family coat of arms of the Herbstheim family. This noble family owned a noble seat in the town of the same name and was the owner of a princely Bavarian knighthood. We receive the first evidence for the Lords of Herbstheim from the year 1363. In addition to the Herbstheim headquarters, they also owned a tavern in Höhnhart. Lorenz Herbstheimer owned the estate from 1557 to 1569. With him, the aristocratic family died out in the male tribe. The noble seat Herbstheim was demolished in 1811. The Dreiberg can also be understood as a reference to the location in the Innviertel hill country and to the Höhnhart, which gives it its name.

The coat of arms was designed by Franz Daringer from Wildenau.

history

In 898 the place is mentioned for the first time as "cum foresto ad honhart". Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then 'Innbaiern'). Briefly Bavarian again during the Napoleonic Wars , since 1814 it has finally belonged to Upper Austria. In 1934 the name of the community was changed from Henhart to Höhnhart. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

The medieval Höhnhart Castle is now an inn.

politics

In the municipal council with 19 members, the ÖVP has 10 mandates, the SPÖ 4 mandates and the FPÖ 5 mandates.

Population development

In 1991 the community had 1,410 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 1,400 inhabitants. The reason for the decline in population was emigration, which could not be offset by the positive birth balance. From 2001 to 2011 the birth balance was also negative, so that the population fell to 1,369.
