Höhnhart Castle
The Höhnhart castle was located in the municipality Höhnhart in Braunau am Inn District of Upper Austria (Höhnhart 27 and / or Höhnhart 9).
history
In Höhnhart, two residences are mentioned around 1330 , which were apparently owned by the Diocese of Passau .
1503 Hanns Schweikkerswetter is mentioned on one residence and Hanns Furelpekh on the other. It is no longer possible to determine from which the later castle originated. The provost judge Wolf Tatenpeckh are named as further owners of the mansions, 1567 the Herbstheimer, 1576 the Endhofer, then the Söll von Aichperg, 1621 Straßmayr, 1736 again an Herbstheimer and 1779 Graf von der Wahl. In the 18th century, the Seybersstorffers got the castle from the diocese of Passau as a fief . The Gramiller owned the residence from 1826 to 1848.
According to the representation in the Historico-topographica descriptio and the copper engraving by Michael Wening from (1721), Höhnhart was a two-gabled building with an adjoining rural property, which evokes the impression of a manor house and not necessarily that of a castle.
Today it has either become the Gasthof Gramiller or the residence has merged into the former inn and brewery Müller (Bräuhaus).
