Norbert Grabherr

Norbert Grabherr (born January 24, 1919 in Linz , Upper Austria , Austria ; † October 20, 1977 ) was an Upper Austrian regional official and author. He dealt with castle lore and fortifications, local and local history and seal lore.

Life

Grave gentleman whose father from Vorarlberg came and was a veterinarian, graduated in Linz 1930-1935 five classes grammar school and then moved to the Business Academy . He then began studying at the University of World Trade in Vienna. In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht. At the end of the war he was in a Linz hospital because of a splinter wound. He briefly studied political science in Graz from the winter semester 1945/46 and then went into business for himself in Timelkam . Due to operational problems caused by the currency reform , he gave up the company and started working as an accountant at Elektro-Bau in 1949. Two years later, in 1951, he joined the Upper Austrian provincial government.

From around 1950 onwards, Grabherr devoted his free time to researching Upper Austrian castles and from 1958 published articles on individual castles in various newspapers. In 1963 he published the first volume of “Burgen und Schlösser in Oberösterreich” and in 1964 the second volume. Grabherr's main work is his "Historical-topographical handbook of the fortifications and mansions of Upper Austria", which was published in 1975 by the Austrian Working Group on Prehistory and Early History.

Grabherr was a member of the German Castle Association , the Austrian Castle Association and the Styrian Castle Association, and he was also the auditor of the Upper Austrian Museum Association .

Grabherr had been married to Wilfriede Illenberger from Leobersdorf since 1950 and last lived in Pasching .
