Alois Zauner

Alois Zauner (born April 25, 1925 in Rottenbach , † November 18, 2009 in Linz ) was an Austrian historian and long-time director of the Upper Austrian regional archive .

Live and act

Zauner graduated from secondary school in Ried im Innkreis in 1943 and studied history and geography at the University of Innsbruck after the war and as a prisoner of war, and received his doctorate in Vienna. phil. and completed his training as a scientific archivist from 1948 to 1950 at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research , which he completed with the state examination.

From 1950 he worked in the Upper Austrian Provincial Archives, in 1965 he became deputy director and from 1979 until his retirement in 1989 he was director of the facility. His main research interests were Upper Austrian regional history , town history and the history of the Middle Ages .

Among other things, he was the scientific director of the provincial exhibition "1000 Years of Upper Austria" in 1983 and authoritative author of the two catalog volumes that were published on it. In the same year, for the Upper Austrian Museum Association for its 150th anniversary, he compiled a summary of the medieval history of the country based on current regional historical literature.

It is thanks to Zauner that the Upper Austrian community of heraldry is scientifically sound .
