Christian K. Steingruber

Christian K. Steingruber (born September 12, 1958 in Linz ) is an Austrian regional and local history researcher who, in addition to his work as head of a sound engineering company, became known for his archaeological and local history work.

Live and act

Christian K. Steingruber graduated from the Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium in Linz in 1977 . From 1977 to 1981 he studied sound engineering and electroacoustics at the Institute for Electroacoustics at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna . After completing his civil service in 1982 at the human rights organization Amnesty International , he practiced the profession of sound engineer (sound engineer) from 1983. In 1989 he founded his own sound engineering company in Linz.

Steingruber has become known for his commitment to exploration and his commitment to the preservation of archaeological monuments in Upper Austria, as well as a large number of archaeological and local history works. A particular merit was the fundamental revision of the "Historical-Topographical Handbook of Defense Systems and Manors of Upper Austria" by Norbert Grabherr , which made it possible to correct a number of erroneous locations and misinterpretations of findings and add many additional objects. The information obtained has been and is continuously compared with the records of the Upper Austrian State Museums , the Upper Austrian State Archives , the Department of Archaeological Monuments in the Federal Monuments Office and the results of other castle researchers and stored in a database.

Steingruber has participated in several archaeological excavation campaigns as well as inspections and remeasurements of soil monuments (e.g. already in 1977 as a student in the excavation campaign in Stillfried in Lower Austria under the direction of Fritz Felgenhauer , the inventory of the prehistoric and prehistoric soil monuments on the Kürnberg , necropolises and Castle sites in the Mühlviertel and Innviertel or the inspection and documentation of the relics of the Budweis – Linz – Gmunden horse-drawn railway ). The results are also documented in numerous reports on archaeological monuments that were previously unknown (e.g. Burg Obermarsbach , Burg Oberwesen , Burgstall Stein , Burgstall bei Wolfstein). This research work was also reflected in the collaboration on the Upper Austrian Cultural Atlas and the revision of the Upper Austrian digital spatial information system DORIS . The compiled data sets and photos have also been made available for the Archaeological Information System for Upper Austria (AIS) .

His work leads to a heightened awareness of threatened cultural monuments and that objects threatened by destruction are placed under monument protection.
