history

There are already depot finds in Lochen from the Younger Stone Age . As a result, there are also finds from the Hallstatt and La Tène periods , when Illyrians and Celts settled the country. Roman settlements could also be secured in Lochen, where the road to Castra Batava (Passau) ran. After the Migration Period, Bajuvars settled in the area from the 6th century.

Lochen was first mentioned in a document in 903 in a deed of donation from Bishop Madalwin. Lochen belonged - as can be seen from a personal interest certificate - to Mattsee Abbey . Through the Peace of Teschen in 1779, the entire Innbaiern region of that time came with Punch from Bavaria to Austria . In the course of this change, Lochen came from the Diocese of Passau to the Diocese of Linz, which was newly founded in 1785 .

Punch was proposed as the location for Salzburg Airport in 1974 .

The community has only recently been called Lochen am See . This should refer to the fact that the municipality extends to the Mattsee , which belongs to the state of Salzburg . This fact is relatively unknown in space. The main town itself is not on the lake.

politics

Culture and sights

Branch church in Gebertsham , late Gothic winged altar
  • Parish church of the Assumption of Mary in Lochen, with the famous baroque high altar by Meinrad Guggenbichler
  • Filial church of the Holy Cross in Gebertsham: The late Gothic church is a single-nave building with a western roof turret from around 1500. The Gebertsham winged altar from 1515/20 is ascribed to the workshop of the master Gordian Guckh . The altar shows a crucifixion rich in figures in the central shrine and the legend of the Holy Cross on the panels on the inside of the wings . In 1986, wall paintings were discovered in the church. 178 multi-colored plant ornaments, several consecration crosses and four murals were restored. In 1988 the wedding of Germany's former Federal President Walter Scheel took place in the church .
  • Filial church of St. John the Baptist in Astätt
  • Celtic Vierecksschanze: Since no relevant finds could be secured during an excavation campaign in 2007, the name La Téne-temporal Vierecksschanze is probably wrong, the facility was probably built during the Austrian-Bavarian border disputes in the course of the War of the Spanish Succession .
  • The Richtstättenweg Lochen was established on September 30, 2012, it leads from the Kirchweg in Lochen to the Köpfstattsäule in Astätt, where the last execution took place in 1762.
