Parish Church of the Assumption in Lochen

The Lochen parish church is located in Lochen in the municipality of Lochen am See in the Braunau am Inn district in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary belongs to the Mattighofen deanery in the Linz diocese . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

The parish church is first mentioned in 1143 in a personal interest certificate from Mattsee Abbey and at that time it belonged to the diocese of Passau . Through the Treaty of Teschen in 1779, the entire Innviertel and Lochen came to Austria from Bavaria. In the course of this change, Lochen came from the Diocese of Passau to the Diocese of Linz in 1785 .

The church was built in honor of the Assumption of Mary with three altars and was changed in many ways and baroque between the 13th and 15th centuries . After a lightning strike in the 19th century, the bell storey and the spire were redesigned. The church tower fell victim to the flames again in 1978. The last renovation was completed in 1992.

Furnishing

The church has a single-nave Gothic structure with buttresses on the outer walls. A bell tower is built in the west. On the south side there is also a Gothic extension, which houses a vestibule, the sacristy and the Anna chapel .

The vestibule has a studded church door with a massive Gothic portal. The gable of the portal dates from the early 18th century and shows the expulsion of the merchants from the temple . To the right of the vestibule is the Anna Chapel, which has also been redesigned in Baroque style. The ceiling painting from 1830 shows the Holy Kinship . The altar refers to St. Anna teaching Maria to read . The figures in the chapel are St. Rochus and St. Sebastian .

The nave is structured by slightly projecting wall pillars with baroque capitals . A strong pillar separates the nave from a two-bay choir. The two-story gallery in the basement is still preserved in its original late Gothic state, the organ gallery was only added later. The ceiling paintings are by Wilhelm Hauschild and represent the Assumption of Mary in the choir and the martyrdom of St. Bartholomew . The high altar (representation of the Mother of God with the baby Jesus , enthroned on the clouds ) from 1709 is attributed to the sculptor Meinrad Guggenbichler from Mondsee. It is richly figured ( St. George , St. Florian , St. Barbara , St. Catherine ) . In the middle of the altarpiece stands St. Bartholomew between angels and is flanked by St. Sebastian and St. Rochus . The shot is formed by an eye of God .

The pulpit from 1713 shows pictures of the four evangelists . On the sound cover is a picture of a pelican tearing its chest open in order to use its blood to bring its young to life.

The left side altar from 1724 is consecrated to Mary like the main altar, in the top are St. Barbara and St. Apollonia . The right side altar roughly shows the fourteen helpers in need and in the essay the battle of St. Michaels depicted. The side statues are of St. Joachim and St. Joseph .

The Way of the Cross was added in 1859 instead of a previous one from the 18th century, it comes from the painter Franz Meier from Salzburg.
