history

In the year 803 Cotalind and her brother Popili donated the Church of the Assumption of Mary , which Cotafried and wife Kepahilt had built (consecration 739), including property to the Passau diocese , hence the place name Bischofsdorf .

Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then Innbaiern ) . During the Napoleonic Wars briefly royal Bavarian again , since 1814 it has finally belonged to the crown land of Austria above the Enns . After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945, Upper Austria was restored .

Population development

In 1991 the municipality had 1,513 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 1,641 inhabitants. The reasons for the increase were a positive birth balance and a positive migration balance . In the next 10 years, emigration increased, but could be almost offset by the birth balance, so that the population decreased only slightly to 1,639. In 2018, the population peaked at 1,672.

Johann Sengthaler of the ÖVP was mayor until his death on April 22, 2014. The local council elected Josef Rehrl junior, also ÖVP, as his successor.
