Hans Krotthammer

Hans Krotthammer (born August 23, 1918 in Pischelsdorf am Engelbach , † September 13, 1977 in Linz ) was an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Hans Krotthammer grew up as a farmer's son on the Polhamergut in Pfaffing, municipality of Pischelsdorf. He attended the secondary school in Mattighofen . In 1932 he joined the Pischelsdorf music band. After military service in World War II, he worked for a construction company in Salzburg and took singing lessons on the side. He moved to Linz , worked at ESG , where he sang in the company's own men's choir and his voice stood out. In 1951 Krotthammer began to study singing at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz. In 1952 he made his debut at the Landestheater Linz as a messenger in Verdi's Aida . In 1953/54 he got a permanent engagement there as an opera tenor. From 1956 to 1963 he was engaged at the Graz Opera House , where he sang 38 roles and became a crowd favorite. He also sang operetta roles.

In 1957 he appeared at the Bayreuth Festival as a squire in Wagner's Parsifal . From 1963 to 1965 he was engaged at the Dortmund Opera House , and again at the Linz State Theater from 1965 until his death .

Krotthammer participated in several radio recordings, for example in operas by Albert Lortzing and Christoph Willibald Gluck and the operetta Hofball in Schönbrunn by August Pepöck .

Hans Krotthammer last lived in Linz. He died of complications from cancer and was buried at the Pischelsdorf cemetery. At the parish church of Pischelsdorf am Engelbach there is a memorial plaque created by the sculptor Bernhard Gann .
