Perwang am Grabensee is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Braunau am Inn district in the Innviertel with 1035 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The competent judicial district is the judicial district Mattighofen .

geography

Perwang am Grabensee is located at an altitude of 531 m in the Innviertel. The extension is 4.8 km from north to south and 4.8 km from west to east. The total area is 6.9 km². 20.3% of the area is forested, 69.6% of the area is used for agriculture.

The community consists of the cadastral communities Perwang and Rudersberg.

Population development

In 1991 the municipality had 640 inhabitants according to the census. Since both the birth balance and the migration balance were positive, the population rose to 718 in 2001 and further to 884 in 2011, to currently reach a high of 997 people (as of 2018).

location

The municipality is located south of the Braunau am Inn district on the border with the state of Salzburg. Neighboring communities are Feldkirchen bei Mattighofen , Kirchberg bei Mattighofen , Palting (all Upper Austria, Braunau am Inn district) and Berndorf bei Salzburg , Dorfbeuern and Nussdorf am Haunsberg (all Salzburg province, Salzburg-Umgebung district ).

The reference in the place name "am Grabensee" is partially misleading. The lake is mainly located in the state of Salzburg, more precisely mainly in the neighboring municipality of Berndorf near Salzburg . The only public bathing beach on the Grabensee, however, is in the municipality of Perwang on the north bank and is operated by the municipality of Perwang.

Official description of the municipal coat of arms : Shared; Above, in silver, a red brewery with two gold hoops, the handles covered with black cock feathers; below, in black, three gold heraldic five-petalled roses, two to one, with green sepals and red clusters. The community colors are white-red-yellow.

history

Since the founding of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to Austria after the Treaty of Teschen with the Innviertel (then 'Innbaiern'). In 1779, during his tour of the newly acquired Innviertel, Emperor Joseph II spent the night in the former castle , which is now the parsonage. Briefly Bavarian again during the Napoleonic Wars , since 1814 it has finally belonged to Upper Austria. After the connection of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the place to "Upper Danube" belonged. After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place. In 1958, after a referendum, the municipality of Palting -Perwang split into two independent municipalities.
