Johann Winetzhammer

Johann Winetzhammer (born April 4, 1925 in Steinhaus near Wels ; † May 26, 1986 in St. Pölten ) was an Upper Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and state official. From 1962 to 1967 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council , from 1967 to 1979 a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag and from 1977 to 1986 regional councilor in the Upper Austrian provincial government .

education and profession

Winetzhammer attended elementary school in Steinhaus and then graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium in Wels . In 1943 he passed the “War Matura” and in 1946 he made up the regular Matura . After graduating from high school he had to do military service as an aviator, and after the end of the Second World War he returned from a Soviet captivity. He then worked from 1946 as a civil servant at the Office of the Upper Austrian Provincial Government in Linz and was employed as the secretary of Deputy Governor Felix Kern until 1955 . He then worked until 1962 as the secretary of Landesrat Erwin Wenzl . Winetzhammer was also head of the educational center in St. Magdalena and from 1955 head of the educational home in Tollet . He was also the club secretary of the ÖVP parliamentary group from 1949 to 1962 and accompanied the presidential candidate Alfons Gorbach on a trip through the United States in 1965.

In addition to his political mandates, Winetzhammer was a member of the supervisory board of Austrian Airlines from July 15, 1975 and a member of the supervisory board of "Pyhrn-Autobahn-Aktiengesellschaft" from May 23, 1978. In addition, he was a member of the supervisory board of "Ennshafen, Entwicklungs- und BetriebsgmbH", chairman of the supervisory board of Kabelfernseh-GmbH Upper Austria and from 1977 to May 26, 1986 editor-in-chief of the Neue Volksblatt . He was also secretary of the Catholic People's Association in Linz and secretary of the Tollet educational home.

Politics and functions

Within the party, Winetzhammer was active as a regional education officer for the Upper Austrian People's Party between 1958 and 1967 and was chairman of the Upper Austrian Young People's Party between 1959 and 1968. He represented the ÖVP Upper Austria between July 6, 1962 and November 16, 1967 in the Federal Council and was a member of the state parliament in the Upper Austrian state parliament from December 20, 1967 to October 24, 1979 as well as spokesman for building and spatial planning of the ÖVP state parliament club. In addition, he worked between October 19, 1977 and May 26, 1986 as regional councilor for construction and the environment in the Upper Austrian regional government.

Private

Winetzhammer was born as the son of the mayor of Steinhaus, Johann Winetzhammer. He was married to Margarete Grimps from 1949 and has four children. He had an accident with his chauffeur and his press officer in a traffic accident on the motorway between St. Pölten and Melk and was buried after his death in the cemetery in St. Magdalena near Linz.

Since 1966 he was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KaV Austro-Danubia Linz in the ÖCV .

Awards

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his death, a stone stele by Max Stockenhuber with the inscription "Landesrat Hans Winetzhammer 1925–1986" was set up on the forecourt of the St. Magdalena Education Center . Below is the coat of arms of Upper Austria and the words "ÖVP".
