Josef Ratzenböck (born April 15, 1929 in Neukirchen am Walde ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and lawyer who served as Governor of Upper Austria from 1977 to 1995 .

Life

Josef Ratzenböck attended the academic high school in Linz from 1939 to 1948 . From 1948 to 1952 he studied law at the University of Vienna with promotion to Dr. iur. 1952. From 1953 he worked in the state party leadership of the ÖVP Upper Austria , from 1969 to 1977 state party secretary. From 1973 to 1979 he was a member of the state parliament , from 1973 to 1977 state councilor for finance and culture, from 1977 to 1995 state party chairman of the ÖVP and state governor of Upper Austria . He campaigned for a nationwide music school network , promoted state exhibitions and advocated the states' right to have a say in federal affairs. During his term of office the introduction of the preferential repayment of housing loans (Ratzenböck Plan), the settlement of BMW in Steyr and the establishment of the regional music school.

Ratzenböck was president of the regional school board for Upper Austria from 1977 to 1995 , he was chairman of the supervisory board of the OKA and from 1996 chairman of the senior citizens' union of Upper Austria. In 2017 he was succeeded by Josef Pühringer as chairman of the Upper Austrian Seniors' Association. As one of the longest-serving state governors, he also had national political influence within the ÖVP.

Josef Ratzenböck has been married to Anneliese Ratzenböck since 1954.
