Sudeten German country team in Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft in Österreich (SLÖ) is an association of expellees founded in 1953 with the aim of politically representing all Sudeten Germans living in Austria and their descendants. The Landsmannschaft is a non-partisan member of the Association of Volksdeutsche Landsmannschaften Österreichs (VLÖ) and is divided into a federal association and seven regional associations (Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol, Carinthia and the Cultural Association of South Moravians). Gerhard Zeihsel has been Federal Chairman since 2000.

The main goals of the SLÖ are: ".. regardless of agreements and treaties, to demand the legitimate claim of the Sudeten Germans to their ancestral homeland". But also the cancellation of those “ Beneš decrees ” that concern “collective guilt” and “serious violations of human rights”.

In the "Haus der Heimat" in Vienna , the seat of the SLÖ as well as the VLÖ and other national associations of expellees, a "documentation archive of the Sudeten Germans" was set up, which has the purpose of collecting and documenting everything about the culture and history of the Sudeten Germans. The official organ of the Landsmannschaft is the Sudetenpost .
