The Upper Austrian People's Party (OÖVP) is the regional organization of the Austrian People's Party in the state of Upper Austria . Since 1945 the OÖVP has provided all Upper Austrian governors and has governed the state of Upper Austria since 2015 in a labor agreement with the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) .

State party chairman has been State Governor Thomas Stelzer since April 1, 2017.

founding

The date of foundation is May 9, 1945. The OÖVP was formed on the basis of three federations: farmers and part-time farmers federation , economic federation and Austrian workers and salaried workers federation .

Officers and governors

  • In 1968 Gleißner was replaced by Erwin Wenzl as regional chairman of the ÖVP, three years later he also succeeded Heinrich Gleißner as regional governor.
  • In 1977 Wenzl resigned and was replaced by Josef Ratzenböck in the position of provincial chairman and governor of Upper Austria.
  • In 1995 Ratzenböck handed over to his successor Josef Pühringer , who was still governor until April 6, 2017.
  • On April 1, 2017, Pühringer handed over his office as state party chairman to his successor Thomas Stelzer.

In the last state election in 2015 , the OÖVP achieved 36.37% and is currently sending 21 mandataries to the state parliament .

The OÖVP owns a national daily newspaper, the Neue Volksblatt .

European Parliament

Since January 25, 1996 the Wels entrepreneur and blacksmith Paul Rübig has represented the interests of the Upper Austrian People's Party in the European Parliament . As the longest serving Austrian MEP, he has already been confirmed in his office five times by the population, namely in 1996, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.

State election 2015

The ÖVP achieved a relative majority in the state elections in Upper Austria in 2015 .

The preferential vote third ÖVP young functionary Gerald Weilbuchner was complained about driving a car with 1.6 per thousand alcohol in the blood on election evening.
