Josef Stampfl (politician)

Josef Stampfl (born December 24, 1884 in Braunau am Inn , Braunau am Inn district , Upper Austria ; † May 17, 1962 in Linz , Upper Austria) was an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP).

Life

After attending elementary school and middle school , Stampfl studied law at the University of Vienna and the University of Graz and, after gaining a doctorate in law in 1916, settled as an independent lawyer . From 1902 he was a member of the K.ö.St.V. Almgau Salzburg in the MKV . He was also a member of KaV Norica Vienna from 1904 and later of KÖHV Carolina Graz .

Between 1940 and 1945, as a lawyer, he played a key role in saving the Bischöfliche Gymnasium Petrinum Linz from the National Socialists .

Later he also began a political career in the ÖVP and was not only a member of the municipal council , but also vice mayor of Linz. He was also chairman of the ÖVP Upper Austria from 1945 to 1947 .

On December 19, 1945, he became a member of the Federal Council and was a member of it until the end of the fifth legislative period on November 5, 1949. During this time, Josef Stampfl was President of the Austrian Federal Council from January 1 to June 30, 1948 .
