The state election in Upper Austria in 1985 took place on October 6, 1985 . The ÖVP regained an absolute majority with slight gains, while the Social Democratic Party of Austria suffered losses. The state parliament re-elected Josef Ratzenböck (ÖVP) as governor, who headed the state government of Ratzenböck III . For the first time, various green lists competed, but none of them could win mandates, even if together they received around 4 percent of the votes. The Freedom Party of Austria achieved the worst result in Upper Austria to date with 5 percent .
