The state elections in Upper Austria in 1967 took place on October 22, 1967 . In the process, the ÖVP lost votes and became only the second strongest force behind the SPÖ , which was able to achieve significant gains, became the strongest party for the first time and achieved as many mandates as the ÖVP. However, she could not take over the office of governor from the ÖVP because the ÖVP was able to secure the support of the FPÖ. The state parliament re-elected Heinrich Gleißner (ÖVP) as governor in the state government of Gleißner VIII .
