from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The provincial government Gleißner VIII under governor Heinrich Gleißner (ÖVP) formed the Upper Austrian provincial government from the beginning of the XX. Legislative period of the Upper Austrian parliament on 17 November 1967 to the resignation Gleißners from the government on May 2, 1971. The state government Gleißner VIII was followed by the state government Wenzl I after.

After the state elections in 1967 , the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) overtook the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) for the first time in history and achieved the same level of mandate as the ÖVP. Nevertheless, Heinrich Gleißner was re-elected governor by the state parliament with the support of the FPÖ. Of the nine members of the state government, five mandates were held by the ÖVP and four by the SPÖ. During the term of office of the state government Gleißner V, there was only one change in the government team when Ludwig Bernaschek (SPÖ) resigned from his post on July 27, 1969 and Stefan Demuth was elected as his successor the following day.
