Stefan Demuth

Stefan Demuth (born May 5, 1912 in Linz ; † February 23, 1988 ibid) was an Upper Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and high school teacher. From 1955 to 1967 he was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament and from 1966 to 1978 a regional councilor in the Upper Austrian state government .

education and profession

After elementary school in Linz, Demuth attended secondary school in Linz and, after graduating from high school, studied mathematics and descriptive geometry at the Technical University in Vienna . Between 1937 and 1945 he worked as a middle school teacher at grammar schools in Linz and Wels and from 1952 to 1972 he was director of the 2nd federal high school for girls in Linz, although his work there was connected with interruptions due to his political activities. Demuth was also chairman of the supervisory board of Ennskraftwerke and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of OKA.

Politics and functions

Between 1928 and 1930, Demuth was involved as chairman of the socialist middle school students in Upper Austria and was then chairman of the socialist middle school students in Austria from 1930 to 1934. In addition, between 1928 and 1930 he was a board member of the Social Democratic Middle Schools in Austria. After the Second World War, on December 13, 1945, Demuth was sworn in as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament, to which he was a permanent member for two periods until November 19. From 1947 to 1955 he was also deputy state commissioner for the Mühlviertel , where he was responsible for the political management of the school system, the economics department and the transport department. On November 19, 1955, he was sworn in as a provincial councilor of the Upper Austrian provincial government, and until November 1961 he was responsible for price monitoring, savings banks and water law. On November 17, 1961, he took over the health care and vocational schools department as regional councilor, which he headed until September 18, 1972. Between July 28, 1969 and September 18, 1972, he was also Deputy Governor and entrusted with the departments of municipalities and vocational schools, where he resigned from his political positions after a heart attack.

From 1945 onwards, Demuth was a member of the SPÖ provincial executive committee for Upper Austria. He also held the position of a member of the Upper Austria regional management of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions and was a member of the SPÖ's board of directors from 1963 to 1973. Between July 1969 and 1972 he also worked as the regional party leader of the SPÖ Upper Austria. Demuth was a co-founder of the Upper Austria Youth Parliament and the State School Council for Upper Austria.

Private

Demuth was born one of two children into a working class family. His father, Stefan Demuth, worked as an iron turner for the ÖBB and joined the Social Democratic Party in 1908. His mother Hedwig Deibler was a trained cook and seamstress. His sister became a teacher and a school director. He married Gertraud Wurzer from Steyr in 1939 and was the father of a daughter and a son. After the death of his first wife in 1963, he married Eiga Lundwall from Salzburg in 1964.
