Rupert Hartl

Rupert Hartl (born April 2, 1921 in Reichenau im Mühlkreis ; † March 6, 2006 ) was an Austrian lawyer and social democratic politician.

Life

Hartl visited Linz high school in College Petrinum (where he classmate of the late Governor Erwin Wenzl was), the eighth grade he completed in the Linz state school at the Spittelwiese. Immediately after leaving school he had to join the Wehrmacht , where he was taken prisoner of war as a first lieutenant, but from which he was able to escape before the end of the war in 1945. He then studied law in Graz and Innsbruck and received his doctorate in February 1948. For the time being, he chose a career as a judge .

Hartl joined the SPÖ in 1949. From 1956 to 1964 he was the first chairman of the judges and prosecutors trade union section for Upper Austria, which brought him closer to politics. In 1967 he became a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag , where the lawyer was elected First President of the Landtag . In 1969 he was appointed to the regional council , where he was responsible for the social and health department. From 1974 to 1982 Hartl was Deputy Governor and at the same time chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Upper Austria. During his activity as President of the Landtag, he initiated and completed a fundamental reform of the Upper Austrian provincial constitution. In 1982 he resigned as party chairman and left politics. In retirement he turned to writing non-fiction books.
