Josef Schweighofer

Josef Schweighofer (born October 4, 1910 in Linz ; † December 29, 2010 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and ÖBB employee.

education and profession

Schweighofer completed his education at the elementary and community school by 1924 and then embarked on a commercial career. After being unemployed for a few years due to the economic crisis, from 1939 in the service of the railway, where he entered the service of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1939 and worked for eleven years as a dispatcher or board member at various train stations in Upper Austria and Salzburg. He was also involved in the union and between 1945 and 1951 was active as the local group chairman of the railway workers' union . He then worked from 1951 to 1958 as a staff representative in the ÖBB directorate in Linz and from 1959 to 1969 as the director's secretary of the railway workers' union for the Linz Federal Railway Directorate. Between 1964 and 1969 he was also deputy chairman of the Austrian railroad workers.

Politics and functions

Schweighofer came into contact with the Social Democratic Party, which he joined in 1930, through the Kinderfreunde and the Sozialistische Jugend. In addition to his professional activity for the railway workers' union, Schweighofer was from November 16, 1954 to March 17, 1970 Chamber Councilor in the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Upper Austria. There he also worked as Vice President from 1959 to 1970. He also represented the Social Democratic Party of Upper Austria in the municipal council of Schwarzach im Pongau, was a member of the state parliament between November 17, 1967 and November 15, 1973, and its first president from July 28, 1969 to November 15, 1973. In 1973 he said goodbye to retirement.
