August Bachmayr

August Bachmayr (born August 20, 1918 in Aschach an der Steyr , † February 26, 1977 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ), state employee and farmer. He was a member of the Upper Austrian State Parliament , Vice Mayor of Aschach an der Steyr and third President of the Upper Austrian State Parliament.

Life

Bachmayr was employed as a driver at the Steyr district building authority and also worked as a small farmer. He was committed to the rural workers and also campaigned for agricultural workers and small farmers. He set his priorities in particular in social security, he was also active for over two decades in local politics and, finally, through two legislative periods in state politics. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Agriculture and was elected to the General Assembly of the Agricultural and Forestry Social Insurance Institution in 1948. From 1950 he was also a member of the Landwirtschaftskrankenkasse Oberösterreich and from 1968 deputy chairman of the monitoring committee of the Landwirtschaftskrankenkasse Oberösterreich. He also held the position of chairman of the Aschach an der Steyr electricity cooperative and that of the vice chairman of the Upper Austrian Association of Electricity Cooperatives. In terms of local politics, he was a local councilor in Aschach an der Steyr between 1955 and 1973, and between 1956 and 1967 he also served as vice mayor. He represented the Austrian People's Party between November 19, 1955 and November 16, 1967 in the Upper Austrian Landtag, and between November 19, 1955 and October 20, 1961, he also acted as the Third President of the Upper Austrian Landtag, in which he was the former Provincial Councilor and State School Board President Jakob Mayr succeeded.

After his death, August-Bachmayr-Strasse was named after him in his home town of Aschach an der Steyr. The "August Bachmayr Memorial Hiking Trail" also reminds of him.
