Leo Habringer (born April 18, 1927 in Haibach ob der Donau , † December 26, 2002 in Linz ) was an Upper Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and party employee. He was a member of the Austrian Federal Council , deputy and second president of the Upper Austrian regional parliament and from 1982 to 1991 regional councilor in the Upper Austrian regional government .

education and profession

Habringer attended elementary school and then switched to a high school. In 1942 he joined the community of Haibach ob der Donau as an administrative apprentice and after his return from captivity from 1946 to 1950 he worked as a community secretary in Haibach ob der Donau. He then switched to the Steyr works as a welder, where he worked until 1956. Habringer became an employee of the state party secretariat in 1956.

Politics and functions

Habringer got his political stamping in the socialist youth. After his employment in the regional party secretariat of the SPÖ Upper Austria, he built up the local political department, was the founder of the Socialist Association of Local Representatives of Upper Austria and its managing chairman until 1975. In addition, he was also an organizational officer of the SPÖ regional organization and finally regional party secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Upper Austria. In 1975 he switched to the non-profit housing cooperative of the city of Linz as second director or deputy managing director .

Within the party, he worked as a member and chairman of the SPÖ district committee in Linz and, after his political career, was chairman of the Upper Austria pensioners' association from 1995 onwards. He represented the SPÖ between November 17, 1967 and November 15, 1973 in the Federal Council and was sworn in as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament on November 6, 1973. On the same day he was also elected second president of the Upper Austrian state parliament, where he worked as a member of the state parliament and second president of the state parliament until October 21, 1982. Between October 25, 1979 and October 21, 1982 he was also the deputy chairman of the SPÖ state parliament club. On October 1, 1982, Habringer was elected to the State Councilor for Nature Conservation and Health, after Rupert Hartl left the Ratzenböck II state government prematurely. From October 8, 1985, Habringer was also regional councilor for nature conservation, health and housing in the regional government of Ratzenböck III , where he held his office until October 29, 1991.

He is buried at the St. Barbara Cemetery in Linz.

Private

Habringer was married to Cäcilia Schlager from 1950 and had a son in 1952.
