Franz Plasser

Franz Plasser (born September 10, 1893 in Laakirchen , † October 1, 1970 in Linz ) was an Upper Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and district captain of the Braunau am Inn district . Plasser was a member of the National Council from 1927 to 1934 and a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag from 1927 to 1934 and from 1945 to 1967 . He was also second president of the Upper Austrian state parliament, deputy club chairman and from 1949 to 1967 regional councilor for social affairs in the Upper Austrian regional government .

education and profession

After primary school, Plasser attended secondary school and subsequently worked as a factory worker in the Steyrermühl paper mill in Laakirchen. From 1911 he worked as a laborer for Stern & Hafferl in Gmunden and served in Infantry Regiment No. 59 during the First World War. After the end of the war he returned to Stern & Hafferl and in 1925 passed the foreman examination for telegraph technology. From 1926 to 1934 he was employed as telegraph master in the telegraph construction department of Stern & Hafferl. In the course of the Austrian civil war, Plasser was imprisoned for four weeks and then forced into retirement. His retirement was canceled in 1936, but after he was transferred to Braunau am Inn and the National Socialists came to power, he was forced to retire again on May 31, 1938, due to the regulation on the reorganization of the Austrian civil service at the end of December 1938. After the end of the Second World War, Plasser was district captain of the Braunau am Inn district between May 10, 1945 and January 4, 1950.

politics

Plasser began his political career at the local political level and was elected councilor and deputy mayor of the city of Gmunden in 1919. He exercised these functions until 1934 and also represented the Social Democratic Party from May 18, 1927 as a member of the Austrian National Council. In the course of the Austrian Civil War , Plasser lost all of his political functions in February 1934 and was arrested in 1934 for political reasons. He was also imprisoned between 1944 and 1945 during the rule of the National Socialists.

After the end of the Second World War, Plasser was sworn in on December 13, 1945 as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament. On the same day he took over the office of Second President of the Upper Austrian Landtag and held this position until March 2, 1949. On the same day he was elected to the Provincial Councilor for Social Welfare in the Upper Austrian Provincial Government. Plasser worked until November 16, 1967 as regional councilor in this department, and was also active as a member of the state parliament until November 17, 1967. In addition, between November 19, 1955 and November 16, 1961, he held the function of SPÖ club chairman deputy in the state parliament.
