Jakob Mayr (born December 27, 1894 in Waldzell , † November 28, 1971 in Braunau am Inn ) was an Austrian politician ( CS / ÖVP ) and school director. He was a member and third president of the Upper Austrian state parliament and from 1945 to 1949 regional councilor in the Upper Austrian state government .

education and profession

After attending elementary school Mayr switched to the community school in Ried im Innkreis and then graduated from the teacher training institute in Linz between 1910 and 1914 . He found his first job as a primary school teacher in Gampern . From November 1914 to 1916 he worked as a primary school teacher at the Figulystraße boys' primary school in Linz. In July 1916 he was called up for military service in the First World War, where he enlisted in Infantry Regiment No. 59 in Salzburg.

After his return from the war in 1918 as a lieutenant in the reserve, Mayr worked again as a primary school teacher in Figulystraße in Linz, after passing the teaching examination for secondary schools, he worked as a secondary school teacher and from 1937 as director of boys' secondary school 7 / Diesterwegschule in Linz. After the National Socialists came to power in 1938, he was relieved of his post as principal school director and employed as a provisional teacher at the Kleinmünchen secondary school . He was drafted again in 1939 and served until the end of the war in 1945. In 1954 he was appointed district school inspector of the Kirchdorf an der Krems district, but was never able to exercise this role due to his political offices.

Politics and functions

Mayr was involved as a member of the Catholic Teachers' Association, whose salaries he was appointed in 1927. He rose to the position of vice-president of the Catholic teachers' association and was also appointed to the city school council of Linz. From 1933 he was also director of the teachers' health care and from 1934 to 1938 chairman of the regional working group of Upper Austrian compulsory school teachers. He represented the Christian Social Party in the Linz municipal council between 1931 and 1934 and was a member of the state parliament in the Upper Austrian state parliament from November 1, 1934 to March 18, 1938, initially representing the public service and from April 1, 1937 a representative of the cultural communities .

After the Second World War, Mayr was executive president of the state school council from 1945 to 1961 and regional councilor from October 26, 1945 to November 4, 1949. From December 13, 1945 he was again a member of the state parliament and from November 19, 1955 he was the third president of the Upper Austrian state parliament and deputy chairman of the ÖVP state parliament club. He resigned from the state parliament on November 16, 1961.

Private

Mayr was married from 1919 and has three sons. After his first wife died, he married Caroline Zweimüller in 1963.
