Friedrich Bernhofer

Friedrich Bernhofer (born June 19, 1951 in Linz ) is an Upper Austrian politician and member of the ÖVP state parliament . From 1990 to 2013, Bernhofer was a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag , since 2003 he has been Deputy Club Chairman of the ÖVP Upper Austria and since 2009 President of the Landtag .

The trained industrial clerk was chairman of the young ÖVP Engelhartszell from 1973 to 1979 , in 1973 he was also elected to the youth council of the market town of Engelhartszell. From 1974 to 1982 he was district chairman of the young ÖVP in the Schärding district and from 1974 to 1983 he was regional chairman of the young ÖVP in Upper Austria. From 1979 to 2002 he held the office of mayor of Engelhartszell and at the same time was chairman or deputy chairman of the tourism advertising association of the Upper Danube Valley. From 1982 to 1996 Friedrich Bernhofer was ÖVP parish party chairman in Engelhartszell. In the years 1986 to 1996 he took over the office of chairman of the organ building association "Stift Engelszell". Since 1986 he has been chairman of the Engelhartszell Liedertafel. From 1986 to 1994 he was chairman of the works council of Donaukraftwerk Jochenstein AG . From 1987 to 2003 he was ÖAAB district chairman for the Schärding district.

The politician has been a member of the state parliament since March 7, 1990, where he holds the function of chairman of the building committee and the ÖVP club chairman deputy, secretary of the state parliament and also district party chairman of the ÖVP of the Schärding district. After the state elections in 2009, Bernhofer was elected first president of the Upper Austrian state parliament on October 23, 2009. On January 21, 2013, the regional party executive of the ÖVP Upper Austria announced that there would be a change at the top of the state parliament. Friedrich Bernhofer is going to retire as the first president of the state parliament, his successor will be the previous state councilor Viktor Sigl . The change took place in the state parliament session on April 18, 2013.

Bernhofer has been chairman or deputy of the tourism advertising association “Donau Oberösterreich” since 1991, and from 1991 to 1997 he was vice-president and district chairman of O.Ö. Community federation. Beginning in 1996, he held the office of deputy regional chairman of the ÖAAB Upper Austria and chairman or deputy of the “Culture on the Danube” association. Since 2001 he has also been chairman of the “Association for St. Bernhard and INVITA”.

For his commitment across the border he was awarded the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in Gold and (2014) the Medal for Special Services to Bavaria in a United Europe .

Bernhofer has been married since July 18, 1981 and has two daughters and a son.
