Medal for special services to Bavaria in a United Europe
The medal for special services to the Free State of Bavaria in Europe and the world (European medal ) has been awarded regularly since 1990 by the Bavarian State Minister for Federal and European Affairs in the Bavarian State Chancellery . From 1990 to 2012 a total of 247 people received the award.
The European medal has a diameter of 50 mm and is made of gold-plated fine silver . On the front it bears the Bavarian state coat of arms with the inscription "Bayerische Staatskanzlei", on the back the inscription "For special services to the Free State of Bavaria in Europe and the world". The medal is awarded together with a pin in gold-plated fine silver. This has a diameter of 14 mm, it shows the large Bavarian state coat of arms and the inscription "European medal of the Bavarian State Chancellery". A certificate is also issued for the award.
As a rule, no more than eight people should be honored each year. The European medal is not an order or badge of honor in the sense of Art. 118 Paragraph 5 of the Constitution of the Free State of Bavaria and is not intended to be worn in public.
